If you’re keen to go even further, you can choose to do the following:

Harvest Institute Become a certified accountant by taking some additional courses through the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Harvest Institute Switch from financial accounting to management accounting through Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
Harvest Institute Become a tax practitioner through South African Institute of Tax Practitioners (SAIT) – if you hold the ICB’s Accounting Programme NQF Level 5 qualification.
Harvest Institute Become a chartered secretary through Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa (CSSA).
Harvest Institute Increase your professional profile and network by joining a body like the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers & Accountants (ICBA), Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) or Southern African Institute for Business Accountants (SAIBA).

There are 4 levels in this study programme. You'll complete the ICB Financial Accounting: Foundation Level (and get the National Certificate: Bookkeeping) after successfully passing just 4 subjects. Keep studying and you'll progress through the Intermediate Levels to the final Advanced Level.

National Certificate: Bookkeeping

NQF L3 - (SAQA ID 58375)
TOTAL CREDITS: 120


DURATION: 12 months

Entry requirements:

Harvest Institute Grade 10 (Std 8) or equivalent
Harvest Institute No prior accounting knowledge needed
Harvest Institute You must be at least 16 years of age.

Subjects:

1. Bookkeeping to Trial Balance (BKTB)
2. Payroll and Monthly SARS Returns (PMSR)
3. Computerised Bookkeeping (CPBK)
4. Business Literacy (BUSL)

What you'll be able to do:

Monthly bookkeeping to trial balance (manual and computerised); disclose profit and financial position; reconcile suppliers, inventory and bank statements; calculate PAYE/UIF/SDL; payroll tax and other deductions; EMP201, EMP501, IRP5, IRP6 and IT3a documents and VAT returns.

Further Education and Training Certificate: Bookkeeping

TOTAL CREDITS: 130


DURATION: 6 months

National Diploma: Technical Financial Accounting

NQF L5 - (SAQA ID 36213)

DURATION: 6 months

Harvest Institute Successful completion of the previous learning areas (1-6) – i.e. hold the Further Education and Training Certificate: Bookkeeping.

7. Income Tax Returns (ITRT)
8. Business Law and Accounting Control (BLAC)

National Diploma: Financial Accounting

NQF L6 - (SAQA ID 20366)
TOTAL CREDITS: 280

DURATION: 12 months

Entry requirements:

Harvest Institute Successful completion of the previous learning areas (1-8) – i.e. hold the National Diploma: Technical Financial Accounting NQF L5, or equivalent.

Subjects:

9. Corporate Strategy (CRPS)
10. Management Accounting Control Systems (MACS)
11. Financial Reporting and Regulatory Frameworks(FRRF)
12. Accounting Theory and Practice (by short dissertation; topic: Financial Accounting) (RTAP)
